Hi Guys,

After having my pond electrics run trouble free for over a year I have suddenly developed a strange problem. Not long ago the UVC bulb blew and so I purchased another one to replace it - but that blew almost instantly. This tripped the circuit, but once reset the pump worked fine (pump & UVC are separate units). Having tried another bulb, the same has happened. Clearly something is causing the bulb to blow & the circuit to trip, but I'm not sure what. Given that the pump continues to work I am assuming that this is not the problem, and I have checked all connections and they seem ok.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm hoping the UVC unit isn't a write off!

The UV lamp most likely has a ballast unit that controls the amount of power the lamp is allowed to use by limiting the current through the lamp. If the ballast has failed then the amount of power the lamps can take will be more than enough to destroy them.
