Possible asbestos? Pugging?

Hi, have been pulling up some floorboards and found this underneath. Looks very old. Am wondering if it is some form of asbestos insulation? Seems to have been wrapped between the boards below, and has crumbled and split in some areas.

Concerned that if it is asbestos then it will release fibres into the room, especially whenever the floorboards above are hoovered.

Thoughts?

Is that first floor? What are the ground floor ceilings? Lath and plaster or plasterboard?

Yes, first floor. Not sure what the ceilings are made of though.

Looks like wooden lathes and the coating spread on underneath, has oozed through the gaps, which it does to help bond it on.
similar to plaster.
It could just be plaster, I think some was grey colour in them days.
Though it still COULD be a coat of a material containing asbestos.
The only true way is to pay to have a sample taken away by a specialist and tested.
Maybe the neighbours have similar and can shed some light on it, is it a new purchase to you, I would have thought if it does contain asbestos, then its possible they had a legal obligation to tell you, in certain circumstances its the law for a building pre year 2000 to have an asbestos survey on a building carried out and records kept

Thanks for the response. Having done a quick Google it does look like exactly what you say...plaster oozing between lathes. Have found almost identical pictures.

My only concern is the colour, which is a blueish grey... which does seem unusual and makes me wonder if, like you say, it has some blue asbestos mixed in with it.

Will look into having i tested.

Thanks.

Are you in a part of the country where mining was done ? that looks like it might have coal waste mixed in with the lime plaster - possibly- The wood laths look dark too so maybe it's air pollution from industry ?
