Exactly how I do it. Filly's post made it sound like he doesn't use butter. Surely not?

Biggest treat when young was to dress the scones as above, then put the two halves together. Then sink your teeth in. SLOWLY!

The only issue is that cream is not butter. If you whipped it a bit longer, then maybe....

The consistency of the jam makes it a better base for a cream topping than the other way round.

No, cream is thicker and not disturbed when the runny jam is put on top of it.

Yeah up on the moors. You can get to so many places from there. 9 miles yesterday and a few pints afterwards.
