I have been having this problem since turning the heating on last autumn. The boiler is 7 years old and I have replaced the thermisters and the modulator board but still no luck. Water temperature is 62 degrees. I get lockouts when the bath hot water is run but nowhere else and not immediately. All DHW pipes are 15mm. If any one has any ideas I would appreciate it. The manual suggests also the display board might be faulty but before I replace it I though someone might have had a similar problem.

Oh dear! You are a DIY parts changer!

The professional approach would be to diagnose the fault and then make the appropriate repair.

It might have been cheaper for you to have called a competent CORGI engineer instead!

He would have been able to check the setup of the gas valve first to see if that is correct before buying any parts.

What's the flow rate of water at the hot tap, in litres per minute?
Are you in a hard water area?

Changing the sensor/s was perfectly reasonable, and the pcb would have failed sooner or later, and now you have a spare!

I think the flow rate was 6-7 litres but I am not too sure I was told the flow rate was ok by British Gas. The area is a hard water area. The parts were changed by BG but I am not sure they were experienced with this boiler. I don't want to slag them off so I am trying to source the cure.

Most BG people in areas where there are plenty of flats will be quite experienced on the Puma.

Its possibly you are in a leafy area with few flats and had newish BG people.

Presumably you can call them back to complete the repair thats actually needed. Being a big company you can complain hard and usually get a response ( eventually ).

do you get steam out of the hot tap and is it hotter than normal??

No steam from the taps just scalding hot if you run it for too long. I guess it might be scaled up but I have no way of telling. Would it be normal for a boiler to scale after only seven years? Had a thought that maybe the flow valve is sticking or the display board needs changing. According to the manual thats all the relevant parts that could go wrong and there is no mention of scale.

Measure gas usage at meter (see faq thirtysomething)
You should get something around 28kW iirc.
7l/min is a bit low.
Probably the seconadary side of the heat exchanger is lime scaled.
If you can use ingenuity eg at washing machine hoses you can get some chems through the boiler & it'll improve fairly easily.

cause it started when he put his heating on.
Its sticking open a little bit so when he has his heating on some of the hot water is getting around the channel. so a soon as he runs the tap its red hot.

It's a bi-thermal heat exchanger.....you always get an initial hot slug of scalding water when the heating is on ie it doesn't happen in the summer. If this is a combi 80 the hot water temperature is not user adjustable.

Does the burner modulate? ie when the water flow rate is turned down do the flames reduce significantly in size?
