Dear Sirs,

I have recently treated my Central Heating System with Fernox DS40 cleansers and added inhibitors are recommended to remove the calciting and popping sounds the boiler was displaying. This seemed to work wonderfully and the system efficiency improved and all noise gone.

Now, However, the Boiler displays a dripping sound as if "some one is pouring water very slowly onto a metal plate from a height" when it starts, which subsides after a while. I have taken the cover off the boiler and there seem to be no apparent leaks of water...So I'm lost at to what may be happening.

Does anyone have any advice as to what may or may not be wrong and perhaps what I should get checked if required (quite concerned as do not really have money for new boiler etc).

Best Regards

Kash

Kash, if you ever listen to one piece of advice then please let it be this,
If you have removed the front case of the boiler and poked around inside PLEASE CALL OUT A REGISTERED CORGI ENGINEER to look at the boiler. If you do a search on the Potterton Netaheat you will see why.
Not meaning to sound alarmist but your health and safety is more important than a few quid spent on peace of mind.

Regards

bdl

p.s. noise may be air in system or flow rates.

Dear bdl,

I only removed the outer case and replaced it (no poking around at all as too dangerous for a novice) to check no obvious leaks. In light of this I presume all should be okay, but will get the boiler serviced anyhow, but why do these noises occur now and not before the boiler descale?

Kash

Precisiely my point. You removed the outer casing!!.

That can be potentially lethal if the seal is not sound or is not correct.

the outer casing is an integral safety component as BDL pointed out, if you have damaged the case seal there is nothing to prevent flue gas entering the room. Worth checking.

Thank you guys I have called out a Corgi Registered Central Heating Plumber to perform a Boiler Service Tomorrow Evening..just to ensure safety and to check out the noises.

Agreed! Although everything seems okay "Better Safe Than Sorry".

Will however let you know what the noises are diagnosed as soon as I know.

Kash
