I'll do it for a ton. Free drain-down, sorry 'powerflush'. Guaranteed for 17 years.

My entry on Myhammer says that I have fitted 12,000 boilers this year alone, to completely satisfied customers' houses.

Perish the thought that as a lowly plumber I would be expected to be able to make enough to make a bit of profit for a rainy day, perhaps a pension for when I have two plastic knees, or even make the HP payments on the Trannie.

Gawd bless you Guvnor (tug of the forelock). If you could throw some old crusts in for the kiddies, would be most obliged! ;)

Come on chaps, there are installers out there who will work for these rates. I have had two boilers installed and systems chemical flushed in separate properties by a time served, gas safe (Corgi when the first install was carried out) registered installer. All certificates and paperwork were received. If you're prepared to shop around and can find an installer you trust, you might just come across a gem.

That's not to say that £800+ isn't justifiable, especially in more affluent areas such as London and the surrounding area.

If he does just 2 a week and makes £400 on each that's £40k per year. The average wage in the UK is £26K.

Can't see a problem if the guy only wants that price and is prepared to do all the paperwork. I have signed off Electrical certificates for pound notes.

Hell my new boiler is minus vat due to using a good friends account and will be installed for cash

I bought my kitchen less vat and most of the other things I need to do my house up

Here we go again. Assuming an employee has 6 weeks ayear holidays:
£400x2 x46 = £36.800

LESS

Accountant (B***tards) £1000
Gas Safe reg £ 160
Van Ins
Van tax
Liabilty Ins
Tools reair and maintain
Bad Debts
Problem jobs

I could go on and on. But I at those rates, you may as well get a 9 - 5 job, with paid holidays sick pay and subsidised pension. And before you start on pensions being devalued, the WORST Co. scheme is BETTER than the BEST personal scheme.

So, you're saying;

2 X £450 = £900p.w.

£800 - into back pocket
£100 - for overheads

If only I could run my business on £100 overheads p.w. Depreciation on the van must be almost half that.

Are you really that ignorant about business Joe?

If you are as ignorant as you appear, you need to just restrict your posts to the subject that you specialise in. Come to think of that, what do you specialise in, Joe? Answers on a postcard!

Can somebody explain to me how you can come to the conclusion that fitting a customer supplied boiler will come to over £800

a breakdown of costs like above will be good

I am really not having a go but would love to know all the hidden costs involved which add to the price

thanks

the op is having a laugh! if the installer is doing it as a "foreigner" or private job it cant happen. If he owns the business then he can't "do a foreigner" he charges what he charges! I get asked all the time about doing a job as a foreigner...why would I?? I am not a 19 yr old heating engineer working for a big outfit who will go out on a weekend and charge pennies!

If he is an employee then he cant offer the 5 yr warranty and probably isn't insured. Has he got his OWN gassafe no!

Bore off op and move along...nothing to see here!

My example is if the guy just works 2 days a week. He's got 3 or 4 other days on top of that earning £200 per day. You do the sums.

Can never understand why people who get so wound up about what people charge and slag them off and say job cant be being done right .

People go to work for money and if the guy wants to make sure he puts food in his kids mouths who is anyone to slag him off.

Oh and the big issue about that really expensive bit of the job actually registering it with gassafe yep a whole £2.35p now that must put at least a hundred quid onto the job
