Private Number Plates

Is it not against the DPA to post pics of people's private car registrations and the date you took them? What if someone was out in a place where they were not to be??
Tough!

There is no expectation of privacy in a public place. Photographers can take pictures of whatever they can see from a public place or land that is accessible to the public.

That is how CCTV and ANPR etc etc are able to legally capture images of vehicles and people in public places.

But they don't have special dispensation to do it, anyone can.

They have the authority and importantly dont post them on websites like this

Imagine a friend of yours, she claims to be happily married and supposed to be at work in city X but some clown then takes the cars picture for whatever reason and posts it on a website stating the day they saw and possibly exact location. Then friends of hubby/OH see the picture and ask "what was your wife/OH doing over in Y on Tuesday -

Therefore I feel it breaches the DPA.

To be fair, most of the pictures on here are pictures of dodgy spaced, illegal number plates.

So in the case you mention, there is possible infidelity, there is possible dishonesty, there is probably an illegal number plate and if this comes out, it is our fault rather than hers?

Okaaaay! ;)

They have the authority
No more than any member of the public to stand in a public place and film anything they can see.

It's not a problem, honestly. The police like to think it is a threat to their security to film their staff's private cars plates, but it isn't.

Never said anything about "filming" talked about POSTING it in a public domain, fact!! = DPA

For the record, I like to see nice cars and nice car reg numbers and it makes me cringe with people mis-space them break the law and to me it looks naff.

Thanks
