I had some laminate to paint about 5 years ago. I dreaded the though of sanding it to key it and discovered Zinsser's products via a decorator.
I used BIN once, realised it was too hot to work with it properly and called Zinsser's help line hoping for a suitable thinner to extend the working time. They recommended 1-2-3 over BIN as it was water based so had a longer working time.
I've used 1-2-3 as a bonding coat on laminate ever since and haven't had any problems with top coat chipping.
Now having said that, the guide on the can gives BIN an excellent rating and 1-2-3 a good rating for covering laminate.
