Programmer Confusion

Hi,

Recently moved into a new house and still cannot wrap my head around the HW/CH system.

The house has a gas system boiler, unvented with the tank in the loft.

The programmer is single channel, which seems to control both HW and CH.

There is a Salus RF receiver next to the Honeywell programmer, and a wireless thermostat in the hallway.

Does this setup sound correct? I am used to a 2 channel programmer, so to have to have HW on when I only want CH seems wasteful.

My wife spoke with her nephew who is a plumber and he said "just leave the Honeywell on constant", but that doesn't seem right to me.

Can anyone explain what setup they think I might have and how I should operate it.

Not unlike my system. My programmer is two-channel and I leave the heating on constantly but controlled by a wireless thermostat in the hallway. I have set the hot water to heat twice a day for two hours each and that gives me plenty (most of the time I am on my own). However the previous occupants - a family of four - had the hot on constantly, relying on the tank thermostat, and it seemed to work fine for them. So as long as your tank thermostat is in working order and tank is well insulated, I dare say you could indeed leave the programmer on full time without being too wasteful. The tank thermostat should only call for heat when enough hot water has been drawn off. Real plumbers feel free to disagree!

It can be dependant on original system, how it's been wired, existing controls.

Is not just the single channel time switch controls the hot water and the Salus does the heating?
