pug 306 idle problem

ihave a maridian 306 1600i, its idling between 1500 and 2000 revs has anyone have an idea how i turn down the revs

its not just a case of turning down the revs, it sounds as if you have another problem causing the high idle speed,you could have an air leak or a problem with the idle control circuit,did this fault happen overnight?
