Up here most of Scotland has "soft to very soft water"
it was found that lead piping could and did leach into the supply.
Local and national water boards then dosed the pipework with some chemical, no idea what it was but, it was supposed to internally coat the old lead pipes??
Some 25 / 30 years ago [OK I have a long memory] couplings began to fail. On inspection is was noted that the "old couplings" were failing because of what I recall was called "Dezincification" after that the chemical composition of couplings was supposed to change and eliminate soft water problems with couplings, older brass couplings were as i recall vulnerable.
By any chance have you fitted a water softener??
