I'm not saying he should do it - unless he's genuinely competent - but I get the feeling he's going to do it anyway so I'd rather he was on the right track rather than hoping for the best.

Even if the op is competent this is an open forum and others, who may well be totally stupid can quite easily read the info and cause serious problems, hence no advice from here.

Safest option is get a RGI to disc the meter as more pipework is likely to get damaged in the demolition works. Note any damage and then get the RGI back to check/test and purge the pipework when demolition is finished.

It does sound like a very simple job but the OP cannot ID simple pipe sizes and I learnt that on my 1st day

Only used to working with copper and wished to be safer than sorry so thought i would ask the question in case there was something simple that i was missing.

Looking at a bit of pipe to determine its size maybe simple but what if the something simple was that the same pipe joint could have different type thread cut into it depending on how old it was.

I have learnt to never rush into things and to gain advice when doing something that i don't normally do from someone with experience.

And yes i am going to do this, just though i would take the sensible approach ask for advice first.


I understand if the forum rules do not allow advice on this subject,that i did not know as i have read advice being given out to others .

I will therefore thank everyone for their participation and restrict any future enquires to the other forums and ask questions like what is the best way to run real wood flooring if your laying it out the door from one room and into another and its runing the same way as the door

Just a guess, but I would think that more people are killed and injured every year by fire and fumes, caused by electrical defects.
