Yes, I have a Samsung Galaxy. Do you know how far apart the router and the console can be for WPS to work? I paired my printer to my laptop via WPS but it did say to put the devices as close as possible to each other. I'm very grateful for your help DIYSOS - the system will definitely be installed but I expect I'll be back here before long - probably when I have to swap routers! The alarm will initially be connected to my current router and swapped when I get a fibre line.

Hello again

I've tried using WPS to connect my new router to the Enforcer, but no luck. I'm going to enter the details manually and I'm good to go except...supposing my SSID is BT-ABC123, (it's not) how do I enter the - character? I can't see it on the keyboard. Sorry to be so thick!

Don’t think you can or underscore either ….had the same problem with some routers..had to set up by Wi-Fi ( it creates its own hotspot )

I'm such a wally! I finally realised that it must be there because my installer entered the details of my old router as I dictated them to him and that had a - symbol! So I bit the bullet and delved into the keyboard. I'm connected!! I love this new system but the rather tricky keypad is definitely a minus point. Thanks to all for their advice here. Now.....my neighbour has exactly the same system and is being alerted quite often that the living room sensor has been activated (I've heard the alarm several times). Usually after dusk. She says that they did have a rat in there in the summer - no idea how it got in. Would that trigger a (non-pet friendly) sensor if it came back to keep warm?

I wouldn’t worry about the tricky keypad - you shouldn’t really be faffing about with it…

I dare say a rat could trigger it.

Yes, but I did it, even at my advanced age. The chap who fitted my fibre line said that they are working flat out at the moment as broadband providers are offering good deals on folk (like me!) who do a bit of homework and then make them an offer if they renew for 24 months. It's 100% fibre installs of course and I've got 150Mbps as I type. The bloke at BT had to ask his manager if he could make a lower offer after I had said I was busy and had to go. I was out of contract so it might be harder to haggle if you're still in their hands, so to speak. My alarm installer connected me and I was happy, so my choice if I get a new router three weeks later. I would have had to pay him to come back to re-connect me (fair enough) if I hadn't 'faffed about' at the keypad. Thanks DIYSOS for your input though, as I've found it very helpful. My signal strength when I did connect was 13, so I wonder why WPS wouldn't connect me in the first place. I still don't really understand how you can connect by using another device; any idiot-proof explanation? Just interested really.

Next time it would be much quicker to change the SSID of the new router to whatever your old routers SSID was. That will in turn save you reconnecting 99% of all your former connected devices…

To your last point lots of devices with Wi-Fi these days adopt that mode. Your in essence connecting to the Wi-Fi core of the device you are trying to attach to your network. Cookers, washing machines, smart hubs - they all offer this User Friendly way of connecting - it also saves the ‘faffing about’ we spoke about
