Quartz splashback has a 7mm gap and I am quite upset as I thought it would go right up to the top. When the templating was done he asked if the bottom part of the cupboard can come off to which my husband said the kitchen fitter is done and not coming back. Only to later realise that this panel can be removed by screws. I think they left the gap otherwise they couldn't slot it in. But it looks unsightly. Other than caulking what can I do. I don't understand how one side they got it up to the decor panel side but on the other there is a huge gap. Apparently it is my fault for okaying the design but there was no measurements there and I did not query it thinking it will go all the way up. Unless they are always installed like this?

They also agreed to notch out a gap for the wires for led lights but in the end we ended up with gaps not notches

If the gap is not constant, it might be the case that either the worktop and upper units are not level. I would expect the quartz to have been cut square. I understand why you are not happy though.

Isn't that the point of templating with the use of lasers though so you get the perfect cut out irregardless of cupboards not being true?

Is it normal to have such a big gap? I feel it will be visible from our dining room when sitting down.

I too would expect a perfect fit, irrespective of whether the wall units are parallel with the worktop. I don't see why there should be a gap, they would surely put it in at and angle. Have you got a photo of the junction at the other end and also a photo of the whole thing from further away?

What can I even do at this stage? How can I take this up with the company? They have otherwise been very professional. Any removal of quartz will pull the plasterboard away this is a newbuild house.

So are the wall units parallel with the work top or not? This is very easy to check, I'm gonna hazard the units are higher on the right and they miss-measured, or rather just assumed everything was parallel. I would get in touch and try and speak with head honcho to see if they'll do anything .....

Get them to adjust the top units to make it level and a tighter fit. As none of the units seem to be adjoining full height units, it would be completely unnoticeable (Unless there is something to the right we cannot see, even then they could be lowered a bit and the plinths adjusted if required).

7mm is a bit much, 3-4mm would be OK I would think, to allow getting it into place. Ours is about 3mm, and the colour matched silicone makes it pretty much invisible.

The units are parallel and plum. As the left hand units sit flush on the quartz they can't come down. The right hand units if they came down then wouldn't be same height as other side

Husband is saying he will put backer rod then caulk on top. It's not very visible but I'm still annoyed after spending all that money. Going through things thoroughly. Telling the fitter we won't use his guy after he templated with the perspex method as it was clear the fitter wanted to play middle man and keep his commission

Eh? So is the splashback higher at one end than the other?

Nope, one side they notched around the end decor panel so where it meets the hob area and other side at the end of the kitchen it doesn't
