My bungalow was built in 1958. Apart from the kitchen and bathroom the floors are suspended timber. Why should the bathroom and kitchen be different?

The reason why most kitchens and bathroom floors are solid is because those places have high levels of moisture.
A bathroom with a wooden floor can be a pain in the @ss sometimes. I've seen some joists rot, due to the spillage of water while people taking a bath.

Appreciate the answers but I’d have preferred one or the other. Working around the solid slabs can be a nuisance. The guy resiting my boiler punched a hole into my loft to accommodate the additional pipework. He boxed over the pipework so I could not see the hole. The bathroom fitters did similar; huge hole into the loft but hidden by false ceiling. Did this mixing of floor type last long? I assume most modern builds are solid floor.
