What is 75% of 140

How is percentage worked out easy, without a calculator

like this example by breaking it down eg. 75% of 100 is 75
but how do i work out what 75% of 40 is with no calculator.

Or 3/4 (75%) of 40 is 30, whichever way suits you.

ffs. multiply 140 by 0.75. Gives you 75 percent. 105.
Of course, this is the calculator method.

It's OK, I used to add 17.5% VAT on without a calulator too

Or

3/4 x 140 = (300 + (3x40)) ­÷ 4

(300÷4) + ((3x40)÷4) = 75 + (3x10) = 75 +30 = 105

You could say :-

75/100 x 140 = 75 x 140/100

= 75 x 1.4 = 75 + (4/10 x 75) = 75 + (4 x 75/10) = 75 + (4 x 7.5)

=75 + 30 = 105

er is it not quicker and simpler to do it in your head and divide it by 4 and times the answer by three for this example?

what about if i did it this way 75% of 100 is 75, but how do i get 75% of 40

40 divide by 4 = 10 or (1/4 ) x 3 = 30 or (3/4 ) or 75%

What about if you half it (50%) :

half of 140 = 70

Then half it again (25%):

half of 70 = 35

Then add the two numbers together (75%):

70 + 35 = 105
