I'm installing a bunch of bookshelves about 2.2m long, supported by cast iron brackets of the type pictured. I've done five brackets per shelf at about 400 on centre, both because under load the brackets flex a little on account of their shape, and also to hopefully spread out and reduce the pull-out load on the screws (which must be pretty high, again on account of the brackets' shape). I'm using fischer duopower 8*65 plugs and coach screws. The wall is brick and concrete block in a 1930s council house. I've started to wonder, what with books being pretty heavy -- is there a max load that should be attached to the wall? I'm pretty confident about the strength of the attachments -- big screws, big plugs, enough brackets -- but is 8 shelves going up a wall on one side a problem somehow?
