Anyway, Yes you're right.. Boys learn a new set of words when they grow up. On QI so it must be true. It was just something which stuck.

With a bit of effort we can ask questions which can't so easily be Googled, not in one go anyway. LIke the one about the northern and eastern capitals.
If you don't know an answer then no amount of exercising the brain will provide it.
Then someone who knows will get it.

And if nobody knows, everyone gets bored. Since nobody knows when there's nobody else to try to remember, the system fails.
Not that hard to make up questions whose answers you can't directly look up; you can at least make it necessary to have to look up several things and think a bit.
It just takes a little intelligence and lateral thought, after all. We all have that in spuds.

Would you be using Google on a pub quiz?
If it goes on all day and theres no guessing or activity then Google away. If its active but getting wrong answers then don't Google until it gets ridiculously boring.
It's not a Google exercise but it is a quiz.
