It was used in the American civil war, 100 years later would be the 1960's.

Beggin your pardon, guv, I got the war of independence and the civil one confuddled.
It was the Civil one.

Surprising perhaps thatthese two guns were contemporaneous.
Could have been 100 years apart, almost!

Yup, he of the screw thread. Not related to the fruity brothers. (yes I checked!)
Remarkable that it persisted while the Gatling gun was beginning to rattle.
The bores of his sharphooters' barrels were hexagonal, and very precisely made. They had several (~ 4) times the range/accuracy of the Lee Enfield, but were 40-50x the price.
Handy for General shooting, one of whom said "They wouldn't be able to hit an elephant from here", shortly before one got him.

Has nojob 'done a motty' and taken her ball home. Is it not her turn? Has she, in fact, found a job to do? Shall we now call her IHaveAjob? Is she now a fruitpacker, or gone to pick fruit to save the nation since we can't get enough Albanians to do the job?
So many questions, and only one answer...

The fat one, sounds about right.:p

ONE in HOW MANY US Americans, gets food from a food bank?

At a guess, I am gonna say up to 1 in 5. I plucked the number out air but we are talking about a country where the leading source of personal bankruptcy is medical costs.

It is the only "developed" nation that has no universal health care.

I dove in because ihnj had gone quiet. When the threads at the foot of the next page I reckon anyone can pick it up.

Any other guesstimations on the US food bank thing?
In the UK it's 2.17 million in 2020/1, so about 1 in 30.

Hold on a mo though, there is a lot of bandyingaboutery with the numbers. Room to befuddle, because of wording. People attending might be one, but for a family of 10. So I'm not sure what numbers they mean.
Which did YOU mean!

It's nearly that bad. Several (but not all) sites quote about 1 in 7. Must be "people supported by" rather than individuals visiting food banks.
Hell of a lot. Our 2.2 ish percent would be 6-8% on that basis , say about half theirs.

Russia brought food coupons in, or back, in 2017 but I can't find how many use them.

And the USA already has food coupons (stamps) for the more impoverished citizens.

I guess that any estimates, are at best, guestimates.
