Hello......would you believe it, I had an all day power cut on Easter Sunday, not a day to remember. The power eventually returned at 9pm, I decided to knock the heating on to warm up the house but there was no response from the boiler; the hot water supply is OK, so the boiler is working and the pilot light is on, the problem appears to be with the integral timer, which looks dead, any ideas ?

Many thanks,

Steve

Was the boiler left on during the power cut?

If so the power coming back on could have spiked and took the timer out.

Check the wires behind the timer for 240V to the timer. If it is there, time for a new timer.

Hi Dave.....thanks for the reply. Yes, the boiler was left on but of course there was no power to it during the damned power cut, I have nothing to check the voltage with. By spiked, do you mean a surge or overload, causing the timer to burn out ?

Any ideas where I might find a new timer ?

Many thanks,

Steve

Wow wow wow, start with the obvious!! are there any lights at all on the boiler??? If not, check the fuse on the fuse spur (it needs to be 3amp) it might just have popped,

Ooops my embarrassement, just read the full post. yes its the timer, didnt see the bit about hot water OK, sorry...... damn bank holiday hangovers...

Sorry

If I even smelt what appeared to be lager I'd be wallpapering the side of my bathroom

You may struggle to find a timer today TBH, but B&Q will be open for a cheap multimeter to check the voltage, on the other hand, B&Q are the devils that brought us the Ravenheat, go into one and ask them if they have one

Doesn't your boiler have a built in circular digital timeclock on the front?

If so may need to press manual button to get a picture of a hand!

Many old digital clocks run down their internal backup battery in a power cut and when power returns either stay off for good or take several hours to restore.

Hi Tony.....many thanks for the reply. The boiler is 12yrs old and you are correct, the timer is circular and has five push buttons, with a larger manual button directly below. The power has been back on for about 15hrs and life has not returned as we know it, totally dead.

Is it possible to replace the battery ?

Steve

Waste of time until you can check it out with a multimeter.

Check HERE for your nearest branch, or order online and get it delivered to you.

Take the wire off number 5 terminal and put it on number 4
OR link a bit of wire between 3 and 5

1 and 2 are mains voltage so take care

This will bypass your timer until you get a new one

BTW its usually the relay that goes.

Thanks for the most welcome advice.....I have a manual for the boiler which lists all of the parts, the Ravenheat part number for the timer is.....
TH8272(371258) any ideas where I might find one, new or used that won't cost an arm and a leg.....cheers, Steve

I may have a used one in as new condition but you would have to email me from my profile ideally with a picture of yours!

Tony

Hi Tony.....many thanks, that is most kind of you. Am afraid I have no means of taking a photo, I'll attempt to describe it: five buttons under the small display window, with a larger manual button below, I hope that helps....many thanks, Steve

You must have an old book Part number is now TM6192.
I fit loads of them.
Ferroli ones are very similar but they switch between 3 and 4 rather than 3 and 5 as with the ravenheat
