Really fed up from traders asking for cash

It's over a year since I've been paid cash for a job and that went straight in bank to pay bills.
It's 90% bank transfer and rest cheque.

You need a written estimate.
Except job via email or writhing.
Need some sort of agreement with insurance.

We have 2 chip shops in the local town that insist on cash only. Never seem to be busy, no matter what time of day/evening we have driven past, but both have been there for a number of years now.
To me, (and probably others), it is a front to launder money from some illegal activity but how can it be proven?

I used to hate customers wanting cash - all it benefitted was the customer because they didn’t want to pay the VAT, it saved them money, damaged my cash flow and put me at risk.

I’ve known some builders take huge amounts of cash, like £70k

Apparently one of them was dissolved last May, (2021), but it still seems to be trading. At least it was about 10 days ago when we passed it. Will be going past it on Saturday evening so I will take a closer look.
