Recent Electircal Work Questions

He said the CU would cost £300....so I will have to get some specifics but sounded expensive when I'd seen Wylex ones for £90. I cannot really afford this added expense, but CAN NOT be getting people from the paper again. If this guy is a good sparky he could get a good day rate in this area, so maybe is about right.

Spark Mk 1 is still awaiting payment. He has had the chance to put it right over the phone but just BS me and said everything complied. So we shall see what TS have to say, and if he phones chasing payment I will be straight with him.

It all depends on the specs of the new CU, but £300 does not sound astonishingly expensive to supply and fit the new CU, and the associated works which goes with it, such as all the tesing, fault correcting, ugrading of tails and bonding as required etc.

Its good to have some opinions.....this new guy is a good locally respected electrician so would have confidence in his work from the recommendation I had. This may just be the going rate for the work required, and the £330 paid previously was representative of the pile of sh*ite I ended up with....No thanks.

I hope you manage to get everything sorted properly this time.

Keep us updated, with photos too, and we'll check that everything appears to be being done properly this time!

One thing actually.....is there such a reg regarding cooker switches being 300mm from the cooker? Sparky MK1 told me this but MK2 was not familiar with this....

There's a recommendation in the onsite guide (one of our guide books to the regulations) that isolator switches are at least 300mm away from the cooker to avoid damage through heat, or splashes whist cooking, but as far as I'm aware there is no actual distance specified in the regs.

300m ;) :) :D

That would make for an impressive residence!

"Darling, just leap into the golf buggy and switch the hob off for me, there appears to be a chip pan fire breaking out..."

Silly thing was, I missed the second "m" in the quote...
