I've heard of this, we insist on eating at the table, aids digestion imho.

It's not just that, mealtimes are one of the few times when the family gets together and communicates. It keeps the family close as you find out each others news, and it helps children to develop communication skills which they don't get from eating in front of a tv. Sitting round a table to eat isn't just a meal, it's a social occasion and these are necessary for a child's development.
And you can flick peas at the kids when your wife isn't watching.

What ever happened to Tudor crisps and that chewy tobacco stuff for kids (Spanish Gold I think - lost many a good tooth to that stuff)?

Here you go.... not packaged as Spanish Gold but exactly the same stuff http://www.aquarterof.co.uk/sweet-tobacco-p-409.html :D Call it a trade-in for the ant-eater  .

That's the stuff - I have to admit that the photo doesn't do it justice, but it's got my mouth watering already, and my teeth are loosening themselves in preparation  Seems a fair trade - if there are any other exotic animals that you are interested in trading for obselete sweeties keep me in mind  ;)

you can't blame the kids, both parents are out to work and the whole family thing has changed, we went round to friends for dinner the other night and had dinner off our laps!! they didnt have a dinning table, people don't sit down and chat over dinner about their day etc.
and the tv was on!!

Blimey , Popeye ;)... Made a mess of the strides then .. off the lap, only one thing made for laps ... :D

I just love the links some people come up with, the sites I've seen as a result of some off topic link, amaze me sometimes, thanks Brightness:cool:

1967 I went into the Navy came home in 68 to free love and all that hippy/beatnik stuff so had the choice of either going back to a life afloat with men and capstan full strength or a life on the beach with the chicks and waccy baccy, guess which one I chose?

So you're still in the Navy, then?
