Relay wiring prob

Hi,

I've got the relay below and don't know how to wire it after many different wiring comb-o's it still won't switch, any help?
It's to run a lighting desk and it being wired internally with a key to stop people switching it on and using the lighting.

Well, you don't really give much detail in your post, but if you simply wish to switch the mains supply to the desk then I would have thought like this; View media item 45978Could you not simply find a keyswitch with sufficiently rated contacts and not use the relay?

The coil supply goes to 7 and 2.

The normally open contacts are 8 & 6, and 1 & 3.

It was the one that was brought for the job. So had to use it.

I tried it on 8 & 6 with the in on 8 and out on 6 plus switch on 7& 8, but no Neutral.

I didn't hear a click, unless it's quiet i didn't hear a click at all.

You should be able to hear a definate click. What are you using to power the relay?

Well, the relay coil needs to have a neutral connection at one end, terminal 2 as I've drawn it, but you do have a choice of not using the second pair of switching contacts and therefore switching the live only.

When using a change over contact in a relay as an On-Off switch it is better to bring the feed to the normally open contact and put the load on the common terminal. Connecting it this way means that when the relay is off the un-used terminal for the normally closed contact is not live.

Agreed.

Hager, that relay is not that difficult to wire. Really if you have no clue then just leave it! Learning how to wire relays that use 240v is not a good idea!

first up, whats the lighting desk, I cant think of any where a simple key switch wouldnt be up the the task.
Second, why don't they just turn the dimmers off? presumably when you say lighting desk its for some sort of performance space. dimmers are usually located somwhere they cant be fiddled with.

Hi,

It's sorted now. I just missed the neutral it's not really a big deal.
The dimmers are left off but still it doesn't stop them from being switched on. They are in their own rooms with 2x Hager 63A TP Switch isolators. Some of the people who work their turn them on when they have messed up the workers (Discharge).

The best i've done with relays is make a photocell unit and pair of 9V battery.
