We have one of these installed, looks ancient and we are not using it. Alarm box, 4-5 sensors and external bell box.

How do I decommission and remove without disturbing the neighbours too much?

No idea what the code relates to but not for this alarm.

Probably when it was installed! Haha

Open panel disconnect battery and isolate mains power. I’d imagine your external bell is already dead and won’t cause any issue

Whenever I have had to decommission old panels, I remove the fuse from the FCU and let the internal battery run flat.

So the bell kicks in when you have gone because it ran off the battery for 8hrs !

turn off the mains supply to the panel , open up disconnect the battery ….if it’s all quiet ….job done ….if the external bell rings get ladders out ,

Wouldn't that automatically trigger the external bell (assuming that the battery is not totally dead)?

That is what it says ….

Sorry, perhaps I am having a senior moment.... but why would the external bell sound if the control unit has a power disruption (eg is switched off at the FCU)? My own alarm will bleep in the event of a power cut, but the power cuts have never triggered the external bell.

I do not doubt that you know more about the subject than me, but I am confused (often my default state).

Edit-------- in each of the cases the alarms were really old and I worked on the assumption that the battery in the external bell only had a tiny amount of capacity. The last alarm that I had to decommission was really old. The customer had lived in the property for about 8 years, had never used the alarm, and one day it tripped, no idea why- hence he asked me to decommission it.

Read it slowly again
Turn off power
Disconnect battery ( this is supposed to keep the system running in a power fail )
NOW …..as there is NO power to run the system AND if the battery in bellbox is ok it should ring ( this is how it it supposed to work ) BUT if there isn’t one or it faulty it won’t

Thanks for the condescending reply... I was under the impression that the anti-tamper device in the system box would trigger both the internal bell and, possibly, the external bell. If the battery in the system box is allowed to run flat, how does the external bell know that the anti-tamper sensor in the system box has been triggered?

After having re-read your posts, more than once, I still do not understand if you are talking about the external bell or internal bell. Please help by explaining why any bell (interior or exterior) would sound in the event of a power disruption. As I previously stated, I expect the internal bell to chirp rather than go in to full on sound mode.

Perhaps, incorrectly, I assumed that the system box would automatically send an alert to the exterior box in the event that it was opened, ASSUMING that back up battery (in the system box) had sufficient power to do so at the time. Are you saying that the the external bell uses its own internal battery to monitor the system box? And if so, can you provide any evidence to back up your claim?

Basically, if the 12v supply is removed from the external siren (ie removing mains and battery power from the control panel), it should sound from it's internal battery. The panel is at least 30 years old so it would be assumed that the bellbox is also, so the bell battery may be no good. Only 1 way to find out

Started today and have disconnected the sensors, power is off and bell not ringing. If I disconnect the battery the bell rings, don’t want too much disturbance so letting the batteries run down.

When I took off the cover I found the installation instructions rolled up inside. Panel inspection sticker is dated 1986, will post some photos later.
