Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help.
I’m having the bedroom re plastered and I want to remove an old ceiling light pull.

The light pull only works when the main wall switch is turned on. The ceiling pull the works to turn the light off and back on.

For some reason I just can’t figure out how to re wire everything to remove the pull.
Attached are photos.
If anyone is able to offer any advice I’d really appreciate it.
Many thanks

That looks a bit strange.

In the wall switch can you confirm ~ is the single & earth and L1&L2 are the twin & earth?

You need a 20 amp 3 or 4 terminal maintenance free junction.

Turn the power off.

Remove pull switch.

Connect the com wire and the L1 wire together.
Connect the L2 to a seperate terminal.
Connect the twp earths together.

You may have a spare terminal left.

The reason I asked the question and didn't give the same advice straight away; in the wall switch, I'm not sure but I think the T&E is in L2 & ~ viz:

Which will explain why the existing arrangement will light with only one combination of switch positions.

Earth wiring not shown for clarity.

Ah, good point - never actually noticed the bit about the switching not working properly.

Looks more likely it is the wall switch that may be wired wrong.

Sismithin - you best hang on, and answer Sunray's question first.

I confess my first words for reply nearly matched yours until I thought about the incorrect operation.

Yes.

I think someone has changed the wall switch, badly.

The fly lead don't look too good either.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for taking the time to look and reply.
I’m glad its not just me being thick but I couldn’t work it out and didn’t want to mess around at the risk of shorting it.

The single and earth is connected to the L1 terminal on the wall switch.
The twin and earth is connected to the L2 and ~ respectively.

For some reason multiple switches always confuse me
Thanks for the help

strange. I still can’t figure out how to re wire and get rid of the pull switch?
Any ideas?

You disconnect all the wires in the ceiling switch and then connect the two blacks together.

Presumably you will be using a junction box so -
two blacks in one block and the red in another.

At the wall switch disconnect the red and put in a connector block.

Of course, it would be just as easy to get the switches working properly as two-way.

Do you just want to get rid of the ceiling switch anyway?

If you just want to get rid of the ceiling switch, personally I'd use both the red and the black within the T&E to save having 'odd ends' floating about:
