Hi,

Are there any points to be aware of or precautions to take when removing barge boards from the gable end of a house?

For example, is there any risk of disturbance or disruption to other parts of the roof/joists/tiles/felt etc when removing barge boards?

You are liable to but not guarented to disturbe the tiling above the boards, I have seen laths fixed to the boards, and man made slates fixed to the barge boards too, it may be an idea to run a hacksaw blade in first to see if there are any fixings. When removing the boards use something like a reciprocating saw ,or a hacksaw blade if the tiles seem to fragile, to cut through fixings holding the boards in place. If everything is solid depending on the thickness it is also possible to simply punch the the nails through the boards to release them.
Most importantly, however, is to do all this off a scafold and not a ladder and to have someone with you to take the weight when you cut through the nails.
