Removing parts of garage roof - bad idea?

There is no out ward push from the roof if it is fixed correctly. The main issue is racking and wind stability. I'd be concerned with making sure that those short upright studs are adequately sheathed with ply. It may not hurt to chuck in a couple of diagonal rafter bracings down to the wall plate either.
If I have no edge to start cutting though, how would I start using a reciprocating saw?
