Removing purlin joining ceiling joists

Thanks, My roof is similar to that.

You see the "hangers", well I have one up the middle, basically right above where it says load bearing wall.

I havent got the binders. But 4 (2 on each side) supporting 'struts' (?) at an angle from the outside hangers to about 3/4 the way up to the ridge.

Thanks at least I know they're called ceiling binders now, thats a start.

And yes they are above a supporting wall.

I spoke to a builder friend who has made roofs years ago and he said (he's about 70) that you need it if the ceiling joists dont span the entire roof.

I guess I'm just looking for a reason as to why its there ultimately.
