Something like Everbuild 406 which is polymer based; you need to make sure that there's no dust etc on the wall that will restrict the adhesion of the cement. You, could use a 4:1 PVA and let it dry, but I'm not sure I'd reccomend it. If you wet the wall first, you'll find the cement just slides off. Plastic beadings fine, and you'll use a slightly dryer mix to put them on first. These systems are thin coat, that's why you tend to use mesh as a strengthening element. Mounocouche is thicker, and then gets flattened down with a rasp to gets it's unique finish. Wetherby goes on as a base coat with the mesh in, and then a second base coat giving about 5 or 6mm, whilst Ceresit tends to be a single base coat with the mesh in it. Not sure about K-rend, but do you need a white primer painted on before you put on the top coat, or is the base coat the same colour as the top coat.

If you look on eBay for external wall insulation, you'll find most of the bits that you need
