Hi all.

Can anyone tell me how the rendering below is done. There is like a multilayered rendering step to my house. Is it rendered to one level, and then more beading added and then the second level rendered? Or is it stepped out with wood or some other material first to create the extra lip?

OP,
You show a shallow Blank Niche - they are often deeper with plastic angle bead outside corners - not with what looks like a stop bead.

Typically, the first coat is floated on to the wall - then Dots and vertical screeds are used to pull out & build up the render surrounding the niche.
The brick or block background is irrelevant.

Mate this is brilliant. Thank you so much. You answered exactly what I needed thank you.

Basically I had some bi folds fitted which left parts around it bare that I need to address. I was looking at trying to patch it in but understand this would be probably near impossible to do so thought I would look at squaring up the lines (see image) and then making that un-rendered area into a 'blank niche' as I now know it to be called. I've found some monocouche render that is the same colour but thinking it would be better than trying to feather it into the existing render. Even if the colour isn't bang on perfect and the finish exactly the same it won't show as much as it's not side by side if you know what I mean.

Would you suggest using through colour monocouche to build up all of the layers or use something more cost effective until I get closer to the final surface?

Also I have a couple more questions if I may ask as you clearly know your stuff.

1. many times should I add mesh? Should I add mesh to the original flush float and then another for the step out niche? Or just the one somewhere?

2. Should I use a base coat render for all levels up until the finish top layer? Or do base-> top -> (dot and screed) base -> top

3. Should I treat the first finish layer as a scratch coat and scratch it up so the next layer will adhere better?

4. I'm probably looking to use K-rend K1 through colour (non silicone), would that be suitable for all layers?

Thank you.
