It's not really a question is it? More of a vague request. It's hard to comment without knowing what specific works are being carried out.

Don't employ anybody that you don't trust. If there's anything you're not happy with while the work is going on, speak up. Be curious, ask questions.

Maybe for peace of mind, get a qualified electrician to test the circuits afterwards, (if the person carrying out the work isn't already so)

Top floor flat implies that a landlord is responsible for the repair? Or are you responsible for it?
