The flat is nearly 50 years old, radiators and pipework is all from that time, etc.

We will be knocking through to create an open plan kitchen and replacing two bathrooms, so quite a big project already.

There are 8 radiators, all on microbore where both pipes are visible at one end of the radiator and they are very ugly. There are also 2 hot water heated towel rails which would be better on electric (presumably) as I want them warm 24/7/365. I guess in theory (as there is no hot water tank) that a circuit could be created to run these on hot water but I don't see the point. Boiler is Navien.

I'm trying to get both an idea of cost and the length of time it would take to replace with copper (not interested in plastic).

As it's an online forum then without knowing the layout, ease of access, locations of everything etc then any price would be a pure guess.

If you want the towel rads on permanently then yes, electric would be be the logical choice

I would do it opportunistically, yes. It will let you use a lower flow temperature which is more efficient.

I do appreciate that but I think there are a couple of ways of getting to an estimate.

First, assume there is no central heating and you are installing.

Second, you are ripping out and leaving it.

Add the two above together and surely it isn't rocket science.

What's a decent modern radiator ? £200 so 8 x £200 = £1600

8 x £50 for some valves / whatever to be able to set temperatures / turn off / clever stuff = £400

Copper pipe is about £3 per metre and say 100m which is £300

Fittings say £200

1 x bathroom radiators and thermostats about £500

So we have about £3000 in materials and fittings and £xxx per day in labour and how many days ?

If it took a week and it was £300 a day then it is £1500 isn't it ?

Just my guesses but can someone with more knowledge refine the quote as I'm in at about £5k.
