Replaced central heating pump. Now hot rads but no hot water

the spindle head was nowhere to be seen. Found it stuck in the recess of the head! Snapped clean off. So when i thought it was turn it was in fact doing b*****r all!

Now we know why it was turning 360° !!!

I now note that some of my previous posts here did not totally correctly asimilate the situation.

But at least we all know that he not only broke the old head but the old valve as well!

Just to correct you on your assumptions.
Valve spindle was badly corroded and more than likely broken in the process of freeing it up, which is exactly what i wrote earlier, so i'm sure everyone gathered that.

As to the old head - that was already broken when taken apart, again, as explained earlier.

Thanks to those of you with positive input. I will update once i have replaced the valve.

Eureka! Hot water again. Don't we take this simple thing for granted?

Replaced the whole valve and actuator and working a treat.
Worked out that the 'floating' black wire does connect in with the orange from the actuator, and all the other wires between the old BT and new Drayton are like for like.
