Hi All,

Attempting to replace a intermediate switch on a working 3 way light. Original switch had 2x L1 and L2, replacement has 1, 2, 3, 4.

See pics of old working switch and connections (note terminal block connection)

How do I connect up the new switch as various different combinations just result in only the intermediate switch controlling the light with the other 2 switches on the 3 way not working.

Any help much appreciated
Thanks,

Thank you very much will give it a go and report back.

Your new switch needs earthing so move the earth wire from the back box to the switch -

or connect the two with another bit of wire.

Just to say as a general observation if the manufacturer of the new switch is watching -

What is the point of labelling the terminals 1, 2, 3, 4?
It is of absolutely no use nor help whatsoever.

Terminal block "strappers" remain and yes will be connecting earth to the switch.

Huh?

All switch manufacturers label their switches.

Some intermediates have the switching pattern layout on them (either straight through or X).

But all the intermediates I have ever fitted have had the same terminal layout, IE one pair at the top and one pair at the bottom.

I've never had singles in an intermediate switch.

What is your point?

How did "1, 2, 3, 4" help you?

Is it no longer acceptable that the switch securing screws will provide adequate earthing as long as the back box is.
