Replacement of Gravity backboiler system -best way to go?

There again I'm a fool, because I fit them left right and centre, just that I have a family to feed and the market demands combis. I give them all a chance at doing the right thing, but don't dwell on it. If they miss the wisdom and go for the stupid; well it;s survival of the fittest in this life.

Paul,
Thanks for your very candid answer - much appreciated.
Yep - you and yours gotta eat - which is why we all do what w egotta do, I suppose...

....you're right about the combi issue though the for and agianst camps seem pretty much even.

When talking to local Heat specialists though, they all seem to prefer dealing with the tried and tested vented system rather than the new unvented type.

BTW, what is the price differential that you charge for a fully pumped S Plan sytem against a Combi?

Well it costs more to go s plan. A 117ltre cylinder with unions costs me £150 Including vat. 170m litre is only another 30 or so. Bylaw kit header tank is only £30 or so. Full controls including two port valves £100.

Additional labour over fitting a combi; wire up s plan and pipe up cylinder and header tank, a long and full day (aren't all days long in this game?).

Unvented kit for a regular boiler £50 2 hours extra labour, or just use a system boiler.

Deduct saving on boiler from combi say £200.

Overal installation cost more, long term cost, especially opportunity cost of what you would be doing if you weren't waiting in for the heating engineer to repair the combi, priceless!

Guys, just to say a big Thank You for your advice on this topic.

After due consideration - am going conventional boiler / S plan route as against a Combi.

May the grips on your tools always be solid :D

My footprints never slip! If your grips slip you've bought the wrong ones, and you'll keep buying until you have footprints, after which you won't even need a hammer.
