Hello, my mum has a Camray 5 oil fired boiler that is in a external building wired to a Drayton SCR

In the kitchen there is a Drayton LP722 where she presses a button and it will give her hot water. The other button just gives heating and no hot water as required.

She has a Drayton RF1 in her hallway that has failed and been advised to replace on last service, but engineer hasn’t returned to offer advice on what to replace with.

I’ve looked for a replacement RF1 but they have been discontinued for sometime.

Would someone be able to offer some advice on what to replace the thermostat with that will work with the existing SCR and LP722 or would it be better to upgrade the system. She’s looking for something that is simple to use.

Thank you any advice as I only have basic knowledge.

You might be able to get an RF601 or a Digistat with the similar type receiver, but unless anyone on here can confirm their compatibility, then maybe check with Drayton technical. Override on the receiver should be able to give her Heating when she needs it via the LP722. Any other wireless thermostat will work if you change the receiver, all the LP722 does is send a switch live to the receiver.

Is is the receiver that's failed or the transmitter? Those receivers derive their power via a couple of capacitors that can start to fail where the receiver will half-work, It'll look like it's received the signal but hasn't enough oomph to close the relay contacts. It was such a common fault that there were sellers selling the required replacements on eBay as a kit and it's a fairly simple through-hole component replacement if you're competent with a soldering iron.

Hi both thanks for the reply.

It’s just the RF1 thermostat that’s failed. Everything else works as it should. So currently she can overide to get hot water/heating.

So really just need a Thermostat that will work with the digistat SCR but u sure what to buy

The auction you've linked to is so like the Screwfix one it even has Schneider Electric branding on the back of the receiver, looks brand new

Thank you, I’ll tell her to order that then. Appreciate everyone’s help

Your existing Digistat SCR has two small screws at the bottom, with the power off, if you losen them (dont have to take them all the way out), the front will lift off from the bottom. The black bracket you see in the eBay listing, will already be on your wall, double check the wiring is the same (printed on back of SCRs), then you can just slot the new one in, no need to touch the wiring! The existing SCR may work with the new receiver but they are so easy to change i would change it anyway.

The receiver is battery operated so can be placed where the existing one is.
