I am looking at building a retaining wall and have been told that there is available concrete blocks that allow steel rods to be put down them and then filled with concrete, can any one tell me what these blocks are called ? The wall would be approx 4ft high by 18ft long.

Hi replay, they are called concrete hollows and are widely availible in 140mm and 215mm widths.

You don't need this type of system for a standard 4ft wall.

In any case if steel reinforcement is required, then the whole thing is designed - ie foundation, wall and steel spacing etc - and the rods not just randomly placed.

Also, vertical rods may not be the most appropriate for a brick or block retaining wall - horizontal reinforcement may be a better solution if needed. But it depends on what's behind the wall
