Rewire Required?

Part 9 Schedule of inspections - all items are ticked. Many of those will not apply to a domestic installation, and even for those that could, some will not exist.

Hmmm interesting - I hadn't noticed that good spot! Very strange that thy've ticked that.

The whole thing does look like it has been filled in very carelessly. Would you reccomend getting a new ECIR?

Even if we were to take this report at face value, do you think a re-wire would be senisble considering I would be doing some fairly major redecorating?

They did replace the consumer unit a year after this report, so hopefully that has cleared that up.

The original report isn‘t any better. Why on earth would the condition of the tails be a limitation, unless they were somehow completely hidden? And what about the isolator? Either there is one or there isn‘t.
Someone must have been shooting darts at the inspection form!
The only SELV part of a domestic installation that I could think of would be 12 V track/wire lighting setups that were popular in the 80s and 90s.

You should have an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC as opposed to EICR) for that.

The second report (the one for the CU swap) is an EIC according to the form, so that’s about the only thing that‘s right.

It sounds like I will certainly need another EICR. I have not yet exchanged on the purchase so I think it would be worth getting one completed prior to commiting to purchase.

If wired before 1966 often a rewire is needed, after 1966 not so often required. Two things, one rules changed on earthing requirements, and two we stopped using rubber cable.
