Ridge tile repair (moved)

Thanks for that but I've done all that and got it all ready plus attached a photograph but can't find the tab to actually post it?

This is my post

Please forgive but I am panicking a bit. Last weekends storrm led to the top ridge tile, next to the chimney, cracking and breaking off. I live right next to the sea in Norfolk and the wind and rain are extra scary. I have only just been able to find a recommended roofer, whom I hope will call me today. The Dennis storm has already hit and I'm so worried this missing tile will lead to water ingress and cause a lot of damage. I know nothing about rooves and wld really appreciate and advice and what you think approx cost will be? It is a semi detached two storey house.. Really appreciate any help. Thanks

Between £50 and £100.

But no one will be going up there until the wind drops.

Check in the loft, if water does start getting in (it's not a certainty despite how bad it looks) then you may be able to shove a plastic bin liner up there to plug any gap and divert any water.

Btw, whilst up there the roofer may well look for other problems and comment on the general condition of the tiles and flashing. That's not a bad thing, but don't jump to his recommendations unless things are bad and you have evidence. Everyone has a camera phone nowadays.

all bigger jobs are promised immediate attention but only attended to days or even weeks later once the paper is signed.

you've missed the point - the point that it might be useful for the average householder to understand how the building trade works at times of opportunity.
i've never been "proud to work for" any employer - i determine my own standards of work, not the bosses.

fwiw: they are a good company, great money and benefits, constant training courses and a number of apprenticeships each year.

That's not how the "building trade" works. That's how sharks and cowboys work within the building trade.

I know firms and people who run around like Usain Bolt on acid after storms and do loads of work, at little or no cost just to help people out of difficult situations.

i'm not promoting the practices, & certainly not praising it. i just posted the facts in a neutral tone. thats how it is.
i've got no say in it, i'm simply showing thats how the company i work for do stuff.
myself and the lads get no extra benefits, our money remains the same.
our bosses deal in the pricing of work - even small jobs.
i often go out and say what the job is, and how long it will take - they then make all the calls.

the building trade that i know & have worked in every day of my working life works for money - nothing else but the bottom line.
there's job satisfaction for many, me included but i dont go to work for free.

the idea that "after storms" "firms and people" are rushing out the door to clamber on roofs or deal with ground work sewage swamped sites at "no cost" is nonsense.
what are their families living on while breadwinner plays Mother Teresa?

does "there's job satisfaction for many, me included" seem to show "that there are people who enjoy the work they do" - you really should read whats written, it does help.
