Would ANYONE really trust the police to keep schtum ?.
I think not .
Here's my experience of the police in sensitive matters...
Had a patient join my surgery . . she was pregnant and her medical records indicated she was a victim of domestic abuse.
She was going to be monitored ante natal by one of our GPs...
however she registered her boyfriend at the surgery too... alarm bells rang because his record noted he was on probation for attacking her and there was a restrictive order in place not allowing him to see her or be anywhere she was . . . and she was registering him as a patient at my surgery? Bringing in a form HE had signed..
Obviously the restraining order wasn't working.
So I told the district nursing crew and the Police.
Expecting there to be a hands off monitoring response with concern for the unborn baby instead the police just blurted out to the young lady . .
YOUR DOCTORS SAYS YOU ARE SEEING YOUR BOYFRIEND AGAIN WHERE IS HE?
At which point she rang us up to complain we had told the police and then dissapeared off the radar completely. She didn't come to see our GP and she did not get any home visits because she had absconded and the district nurses would not visit her without a police escort which the police were unable to provide.
So in effect that mother and child had ZERO health checks befoe the birth of the baby which was done through A & E . .
I could not believe (could really) the crass stupidity of the Police opening their stupid mouths.
That mother could have got any number of dangerous conditions but us as her GPs would never have found out because the police had been slack, gobby and lacking in intelligence.
