I am bulding a porch with a pitched tiled roof, against existing house wall.

Where the roofing felt of the new roof meets the existing wall,do I fold it up a few inches against the existing wall and push the new tiles against it?

What happens at the top (ridge) where you cannot really fold the felt as it would crease and not lay down?

I want to be sure rain will not get through.

And finally, does the lead flashing go over the ridge tile or only over the tiles? Thanks

The lead flashing stops the water - the underslate felt is just a secondary barrier - You have to do a* step flashing* each side and a *lead saddle* @ the ridge only over the tiles. google these terms * ;)

As Nige has said, you fix the lead flashings prior to fitting the ridge tiles.

Any surplus roofing membrane is either trimmed off or folded down and is regarded as a secondary line of defence.

The roof tiles and associated flashings are and always have been the primary defender against the weather.

When do you use stepped flashing AND soakers, rather than just one stepped flashing that bends 90 degrees to cover the tiles?

Is it to do with the tike shape; flat or pantile/curved?
