Roofing Tiles: sniff... sharp intake of breathe... and then ??

Part of the patio is raised. So assume the cherry picker would need a ramp or something to get up that step, no idea if it can get up a ramp easily or how heavy it is to be pushed up?

They are very, very heavy. Likely even too heavy for that patio, even if you could get it up there.

fwacking great isn't it.

Seems like choices are:

1. Temp fix somehow of the 5-10 broken arris hip tiles
2. 30-40 odd Arris hip tiles with spot bedding
3. Dry ridge hip replacement kit along hip

Got the impression 1 or 2 are possible done without scaffolding.
Feels like 3 is worth it if slopping cement up and down is more hassle and cost
Still think like there is 1 temp fix just to get 5 arris tiles in somehow?

-Materials £50 for plain tiles, eave tiles, and arris tiles (probs 35 ° pitch) & mortar
-Labour for replacing hip and Arris hips, flat tiles and repointing £100-300?
just as covid started my mother in law needed 6 ridge tiles on her single storey kitchen roof redoing, the cost was £400
It was accessed by a ladder from the ground -ie it was pretty low roof really.

So I think you are being a rather optimistic

have you been up into the loft to see if or how much its leaking?

you might be better saving up and having it done next summer

As above, is the roof actually letting water in? If not, leave it alone, then save up and do it properly.

Was ur mum-in-law Queen Elizabeth II and and this was Buckingham Palace?

Its 6 tiles - wasn't there a dire shortage of labour during Covid so mayve this could be justified.

If I could understand the work involved I would see how the costs could come to that. If they slot in 6 arris tiles with a bit of cement and walk off like bandits I would be gutted.

I would doubt it could be worth doing a temporary fix - It seems the only way to access, is using scaffolding, which will not be cheap. Once the scaff is in place, the job is quick and easy. So your cost, is mainly for the scaff.

Why not get a scaff company to quote for scaff, and a roofing company to quote for the repair. Scaff costs almost nowt, once it it up, to keep it up.

they are all nailed thats why you need to do the whole hip. The nails will be failing.
I would expect you may find a guy who would stick them in with a bit of g fill. Hopefully any of the others dont fall out and hit your kids , you now know , its unsafe and needs dealing with

Yes, there is a rear access road into the garden with a 1m approx gate width. I assume something like this could get in?

Also there is side elevation flat roof. which may be able to be used.

Some of the roofers that took a look at it indicated they wouldn't need scaffold and can manage with ladders. One of them mentioned can do something with flashing to affix a couple of hips by creating a hook (can't remember what he said).

If ladders are safe enough, does the below sounds sensible for materials and labour for the roof?

-Materials £50 for plain tiles, eave tiles, and arris tiles (probs 35 ° pitch) & mortar
-Labour for replacing hip and Arris hips, flat tiles and repointing £100-300?

Seem reasonable £cost?

Should they preferably a member of any roofing organisation? Getting receipts sensible and 1 year warranty fair?

Were they wearing stetsons by any chance?
