Hello,

My daughter has a Gloworm Ultimate (60FF I think but the wiring is the same). She has a timeswitch fitted but no roomstat and the house temperature control is not very good  .

To fit a room thermostat do I just fit a (240v rated) thermostat in series with the timeswitch please (between 9 / SL connections?)

Can anyone recommend a suitable thermostat? Thanks.

Mel :?:

Yes.

The Honeywell DT90E is very good. Connect terminal A to the time switch CH ON and terminal B to the Boiler S/L

I suppose I could use one of these using the "volt-free" contacts to make-break the link?
But that's a programmable thermostat, not just a thermostat and it would replace the existing timer for the central heating.

"Volt free" is a misnomer, all it means is that it does not automatically have 240v on the live terminal. If your boiler uses 240v, then this will have to be supplied to the live terminal.

Most modern digital thermostats and programmable stats are "volt free", including the DT90E.

If you are thinking of a programmable thermostat, the Honeywell CM9xx series are probably the best available and much better than the Horstmann. But we have to make sure your system is suitable, hence the following questions:

What control is there over the hot water times/temperature?

Do you know if it is gravity or pumped circulation for the HW circuit?

Is the system the type where you can have the HW alone on in the summer, but in the winter you must always have both CH and HW on at the same time?

BUT good ones!

I would use the "volt-free" as the circuit would be part of an exisiting loop which makes / breaks a 230V circuit - just like the time switch.

I think I will stick to the Honeywell!

Thanks.

And designed to make sure you get the correct advice.

The DT90E would be the most suitable.
