I have a pair of 1 gang backboxes in dot & dab plasterboard as per the photo below. The left box is where the telephone line enters the property, entering the box from below. The right box was a fused spur for an electric radiator in the past and the two cables enter from above. The cables are still connected to the consumer unit but I’ll soon be getting an electrician to remove various redundant breakers. I would like to hide the telephone cable behind the plasterboard and route it to the right, into a cupboard about a metre away where the modem / router is.

How should I route the telephone cable through or around the right back box? I assume mains and telephone shouldn’t mix but if I go over the top then the routing isn’t going to be straight…

Additionally, I would like to replace the two back boxes with a 1+1 gang twin back box so that the blanking plates are neatly aligned afterwards. How can I remove the nut from the entry point of the phone back box?

Thanks in anticipation!

Keep it close to the bottom of the boxes (or the top)to retain the 'safe zone'

It may be possible to fit a 13A socket on the right box if it would be handy.
