Well batteries shouldn't be smoking, send em back to ryobi, I'm sure they will replace no quibbles. Could be that charger is knackered too.
New batteries should always be fully charged > almost fully discharged several times when new.
took the smoky ones back and they were imediatly replaced but even the new gray batteries are cr*p that much so one of the original yellow ones has more power and nearly as good charge rate as the new ones and thats after about 6 years full and daily use? looking to buy some more of the yellow case ones now!
