Safety goggles for glasses wearers

Has anyone found a decent set of safety goggles / glasses / face shield for those that also wear prescription glasses?

Screwfix sell some OTG Goggles but they're useless and there's still a gap for dust / dirt to get in or they squash the glasses. Face shields have the same issue.

I had a nasty eye irritation today by some dust / dirt even though I was wearing the face shield close up... There's an entry point at the top unfortunately and small holess in the yellow frame.

Unfortunately due to my prescription and eye conditions my eyes aren't suitable for contacts!

Could you wear a small pair of swimming goggles under your glasses?
You can get what appear to be ones with very small eye pieces which fit snugly into your eye socket without protruding too much.

Safety glasses, safety goggles and face shields are 3 different things.

Best thing is to try some goggles on, most seem to have small holes as vents, you could always cover them over.


Also look at your prescription glasses. I specifically bought ones that sit close in to the head, as I spend a lot of my working life with ear defenders on, wide glasses get in the way more.

Opticians can dispense safety glasses to your prescription, with side shields to prevent dust ingress and treated to withstand high impact etc.

Thanks folks will look into this.

Wasted 2 hours with the eye issue today, luckily had a gp appointment for something else today and he recommend lubricating the eye and massaging it.

Swimming goggles are not safety goggles so this is NOT a good suggestion.

The safety goggle generally available for glasses wearers are massive awkward things that steam up & horrible.

I agree, swimming goggles are NOT safety goggles, however I assumed, rightly or wrongly, the OP was trying to stop dust/dirt getting into his eyes not prevent flying shards etc.
As someone else said, prescription safety glasses can be obtained from opticians, but I have found these don't fit close enough along the sides to prevent dust ingress.
Just to mention, if you need prescription safety glasses for your job your employer is obliged to pay for them as part of your PPE but not necessarily the test.

As a glasses wearer, I can get safety glasses that fit over my specs, designed to protect against impact and splashes.

Preventing dust ingress is much more difficult, as there will always be a gap where the leg of the glasses exits the goggles

Best bet would be to find somewhere that does free returns (Amazon? Screwfix/Toolstation) and buy a few different pairs of goggles and try them. Ones that have quite a big seal or foam strip where it touches the side of your face should help, as it will squeeze over the legs

Unfortunately I cannot get prescription safety glasses / goggles due to the strength and complexity of my prescription.

I might try using a heat gun and (melting) some over safety glasses for a tight fit
