Could be a good idea. If it's not gone soon after I've disconnected the hob maybe I'll cap it off. I am a little reluctant though as I don't want to give the impression of it being a live pipe (that's what I'd think if I found it!). I suppose bending it over to seal the pipe might be better?

It could give the impression yes, but it would be done to a gas safe registered engineer to confirm otherwise
