Hi guys,

Im a DIYer and ive done all of the electrics in my house, expending the ring main and fitting all new lights, etc....

Ive got a degree in Electrical Engineering and Electronics so im more than capable abilty wise to understand the concepts and put them into practice.

However id still like an experts seal of approval on the whole she-bang so im wondering if there is a test they can run to prove all the cables etc (especially on the ring) are all connected well, connected correctly, etc... Does something like this exist? what does it entail?

Thanks, Pete Brooks

To carry out the correct tests requires specialist equipment and the knowledge of how to use it. And, just to bang the gong of those who have done the training and certification.... Anyway, if you want to read up on the relevant tests and requirements buy your self the IEE On-site guide and/or the IEE Electricians Guide to the Building Regs. Amazon will sell them. As the man said, ultimately you will need a qualified person to do a periodic inspection report (PIR) - they can't do an installation cert. if they didn't actually install or supervise the installation. Go to the NICEIC website to find an electrician registered on the domestic installer scheme in your area.

um, kitchen, living room, bedrooms, and re-routed (not new install) a light in the bathroom - nowhere near any of the no-go-zones.

i most certainly did not!
You extended the fixed cabling of a socket circuit - notifiable.

If you added sockets or FCUs to an existing circuit in the kitchen - notifiable.

If you added lights or switches in the kitchen - notifiable.

is that an issue?
Not to anybody here.

sorry to say but you needed to notify the kitchen, if you search the site you`ll see advice on how to proceed

Are you sure BAS?

The Jury is still out on that one!, the schedule states that you may add points in a room thats not a kitchen or location, but makes no mention of allowing you to extend the fixed wiring to enable you to do this!, some would argue that its implied on the basis of thats clearly what needs to be done in 95% of cases, and those who wrote the rules probably had that in mind, but IANYL

Some would say that Ban is removing embryonic members of the order Phthiraptera...

I am Not Your Lawyer

Often used when discussing interpretation of laws, etc as a pointer that advice cannot be relied on to be correct and if precise answers are needed a proper lawyers advice would need to be sought :)
