Sandpaper colours

The block is a new fabrication. I can change it to however it is needed, or make new blocks. Right now I don't need a sharp edge. But there will be times when I do. Rather than forcing cloth into a sharp edge, I could just use paper that is thinner and crispier.

The cloth is clogged up anyway from sanding paint. Using rubber of cure hybrid polymer sealant, most of the clogging could be cleaned off. The compacted bits could not. I will soak them and see the cloth performance.
What an exciting life you lead .

Ok, the test results are in.

Water is useless against compacted sand dust. The dust clump is basically water proof. The only way to dislodge the clump is via mechanical abrasion using a hard material that will damage the sand paper. Soaking the cloth over night didn't have any serious effect on the cloth. Although, I am not saying there is no effect that could affect the cloth usability.

The cloth could be washed with the help of a stiff bristled brush. This is roughly equivalent to, but probably more effective than, using rubber on the cloth. The down side is the drying time. Neither rubber nor brush can remove strongly compacted clogging. Stabbing with a knife point could do it.

Since it is not economical to clean the clogging, I am swinging back to disposable paper. Finding fast ways to switch paper, and finding cheaper paper are the only gains to be had.

Since metal doesn't clog, cloth will be useful for sharpening knives and, presumably chisels. I am swinging back to cloth a bit. So, the final conclusion is I need majority paper and minority cloth.
